What is cancer & how do you prevent the disease?

What is Cancer?

Cancer is a group of diseases involving abnormal cell growth with the potential to invade or spread to other parts of the body. These abnormal cells are termed cancer cells, malignant cells, or tumor cells. These cells can infiltrate normal body tissues. Many cancers and the abnormal cells that compose the cancer tissue are further identified by the name of the tissue that the abnormal cells originated from (for example, breast cancerlung cancerand colorectal cancer). Cancer is not confined to humans; animals and other living organisms can get cancer. There are over 200 types of cancer.

The incidence of cancer and cancer types are influenced by many factors such as age, gender, race, local environmental factors, diet, and genetics. Consequently, the incidence of cancer and cancer types vary depending on these variable factors. For example, the World Health Organization (WHO) provides the following general information about cancer worldwide. Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide. It accounted for 8.2 million deaths (around 22% of all deaths not related to communicable diseases; most recent data from WHO).

What are the common symptoms of Cancer?

Common signs and symptoms of cancer in both men and women include:
-1.Pain. Bone cancer often hurts from the beginning and some brain tumors cause headaches that last for days.

-2. Weight loss without trying: It’s often one of the signs that cancer patients notice first.

-3. Fatigue: Feeling tired all the time even after resting

-4. Prolong fever that persists for more than 3 days.

-5. Changes of Skin: If it’s darkened, looks yellow or red, itches, or sprouts more hair, or if you have an unexplained rash, it could be a sign of liver, ovarian, or kidney cancer, or lymphoma.

-6. Sores that don’t heal. Spots that bleed and won’t go away are also signs of skin cancer.

-7. Cough or hoarseness that doesn’t go away. A cough is one sign of lung cancer.

-8.Unusual bleeding. Cancer can make blood show up where it shouldn’t be.

-9. Anemia. This is when your body doesn’t have enough red blood cells in the bone marrow. Cancers like leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma can damage your marrow.

How do I prevent cancer?

To prevent cancer, avoid tobacco, maintain a healthy weight, practice safer sex, and avoid risky behaviors. You should take hepatitis vaccines, and make sure your diet contains nutrients that help prevent cancers. These 3 diet tips will guide you;

-1. Eat Foods Rich in Antioxidants like such as vitamin C, lycopene, and beta-carotene, which are in many fruits and vegetables like strawberries, carrots, spinach, and garlic.

-2. Eat whole-grain foods: Whole grains contain other substances that might battle cancer, including lignans, which act as antioxidants, and saponins, which could keep cancer cells from multiplying. You should look for bread labeled “100% whole wheat” rather than simply “wheat bread,” which likely contains refined grains.

-3. Take Supplements that help prevent cancers: High-Quality supplements like Nature’s Field Vitamin C 1000mg, Nature’s Field Selenium 200mcg, Nature’s Field Immune Defence, Nature’s Field Mega Garlic, and Nature’s Field Vitamin E

Diabetes is a disease that occurs when your blood glucose, (blood sugar) is too high. Blood glucose is your main source of energy and comes from the food you eat. Insulin, a hormone made by the pancreas, helps to convert the glucose to energy. It is estimated that 415 million people worldwide live with this disease and 46% of them remain undiagnosed. People with prediabetes have higher-than-normal blood sugar levels, but doctors do not consider them to have diabetes yet.

The risk factors of diabetes include: being overweight, a family history of the disease, having a high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol level lower than 40 mg/dL or 50 mg/dL, a history of high blood pressure, having gestational diabetes or giving birth to a child with a birth weight of more than 9 pounds, a history of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), being more than 45 years of age, as well as having a sedentary lifestyle.

9 early signs of Diabetes that you must watch out for are;

-1. Frequent urination: You always experience a need to urinate more frequently, particularly at night.

-2.Increased thirst: The frequent urination causes dehydration and leads to a person feeling more thirsty than usual.

-3. Always feeling hungry: People with diabetes often do not get enough energy from the food they eat. As a result, they often feel constantly hungry, regardless of how recently they have eaten.

-4. Feeling very tired: This tiredness occurs as a result of insufficient sugar moving from the bloodstream into the body’s cells.

-5. Blurry vision: An excess of sugar in the blood can damage the tiny blood vessels in the eyes, which can cause blurry vision.

-6.Slow healing of wounds: High levels of sugar in the blood can damage the body’s nerves and blood vessels, and such wounds may take weeks or months to heal.

-7.Numbness, or pain in the hands or feet: This condition is known as neuropathy, and it can worsen over time and lead to more serious complications if the diabetes is not treated.

-8. Patches of dark skin: Patches of dark skin forming on the creases of the neck, armpit also signifies a higher risk of diabetes.

9. Itching on your body:  Excess sugar in the blood and urine provides food for yeast, which can lead to an infection that itches.

Foods to avoid during pregnancy

Healthy eating plays a very important role in a healthy pregnancy. You should eat foods from a variety of sources to make sure you get all the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients you and your developing baby need. Eating well also helps you feel better, give you more energy, and help you gain a healthy amount of weight.  It also contributes to your baby’s healthy growth and development.

However, you should avoid the following foods completely;

  • Raw Fish/Uncooked Fish or meat: Raw fish, raw meat, and shellfish can be contaminated with bacteria and other parasites which causes adverse health effects and harm both the mother and unborn baby.
  • Raw Eggs: Raw eggs may be contaminated with Salmonella, which can lead to sickness and an increased risk of premature birth or stillbirth.
  • Caffeine: Soft drinks, energy drinks, and cocoa beverages contain caffeine. High caffeine intake during pregnancy can limit fetal growth and cause low birth weight.
  • Alcohol: This has been linked with premature delivery and low birth weight as well as fetal alcohol syndrome.
  • Excess salt: Salt can cause the body to retain water and this can lead to an elevation in your blood pressure.
  • Processed Junk foods: Eating processed foods during pregnancy can increase your risk of excess weight gain, gestational diabetes, and complications.
  • Smoked Fish: Processed seafood contains high levels of salt which can lead to increased blood pressure and swelling of the body parts.
  • Unpasteurized milk: It is unsafe to drink unpasteurized or raw milk during pregnancy. They contain harmful bacteria such as salmonella, listeria, E.coli, and cryptosporidium that can be dangerous to you and your baby.
  • Herbal teas: Certain herbs teas contains herbs that are uterine stimulants, which should be completely avoided during pregnancy.

Beating invisible Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a condition that damages your eye’s optic nerve. It gets worse over time. It’s often linked to a build-up of pressure inside your eye. Glaucoma tends to run in families. You usually don’t get it until later in life.

The increased pressure in your eye, called intraocular pressure, can damage your optic nerve, which sends images to your brain. If the damage worsens, glaucoma can cause permanent vision loss or even total blindness within a few years.

Most people with glaucoma have no early symptoms or pain. Visit your eye doctor regularly so they can diagnose and treat glaucoma before you have long-term vision loss.

If you lose vision, it can’t be brought back. But lowering eye pressure can help you keep the sight you have. Most people with glaucoma who follow their treatment plan and have regular eye exams are able to keep their vision.

RISK FACTORS

You’re more likely to get it if you:

-Are of African American, Irish, Russian, Japanese, Hispanic, Inuit, or Scandinavian descent
-Are over 40
-Have a family history of glaucoma
-Have poor vision
-Have diabetes
-Take certain steroid medications such as prednisone
-Have had an injury to your eye or eyes
-Have corneas that are thinner than usual
-Have high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, or sickle cell anemia
-Have high eye pressure
-Are near sighted or farsighted

Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of irreversible blindness, but with early treatment in addition to Nature’s Field Eye Cap, the damage may get limited and sight may be saved. #WorldGlaucomaWeek

Prostate Defence on enlarged prostate

In this article,  we will consider the effects of natural supplements like Nature’s Field Prostate Defence on enlarged prostate. The prostate is a muscular gland that weighs about 20 grams. It is a part of the male reproductive system that wraps around the male urethra near the bladder. The prostate gland is a male reproductive organ whose main function is to secrete prostate fluid, a component of semen. The muscles of the prostate gland help to propel this seminal fluid into the urethra during ejaculation.

Disorders of the Prostate

  1. Prostatitis: Inflammation of the prostate, sometimes caused by infection. In some cases, it is treated with antibiotics.
  2. Enlarged prostate: Called benign prostatic hypertrophy or BPH, prostate growth affects virtually all men over 50. Symptoms of difficult urination tend to increase with age. Medicines or surgery can treat BPH.
  3. Prostate cancer: It’s the most common form of cancer in men (besides skin cancer), but only one in 35 men die from prostate cancer. Surgery, radiation, hormone therapy, and chemotherapy can be used to treat prostate cancer. Some men choose to delay treatment, which is called watchful waiting.

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH):

BPH is a non-cancerous increase in the size of the prostate. BPH involves hyperplasia of prostatic stromal and epithelial cells, resulting in the formation of large, fairly discrete nodules in the transition zone of the prostate.

Clinical manifestations:

When the prostate enlarges, it may constrict the flow of urine. Nerves within the prostate and bladder may also play a role in causing the following common symptoms:

  1. Urinary frequency and Urinary urgency
  2. Nocturia. This is a feeling of needing to get up frequently at night to urinate
  3. Hesitancy. Difficulty initiating the urinary stream; interrupted, weak stream
  4. Incomplete bladder emptying. The feeling of persistent residual urine, regardless of the frequency of urination
  5. Straining. The need strain or push (Valsalva maneuver) to initiate and maintain urination in order to more fully evacuate the bladder
  6. Decreased force of the stream. The subjective loss of force of the urinary stream over time
  7. Dribbling. The  Loss of small amounts of urine due to a poor urinary stream as well as weak urinary stream

Treatment of BPH (enlarged prostate)

A wide variety of treatments are available for enlarged prostate, including medication, minimally invasive therapies, and surgery. The best treatment choice for the patient depends on some factors;

1.The size of the prostate
2.Age of the patient
3.The overall health of the patient
4. The amount of discomfort or bother the patient is experiencing

If the symptoms are tolerable, treatment may be postponed. For some men, symptoms can ease without treatment.

Medication for BPH

Common medications used for treating Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) come with some uncomfortable side effects.

  1. Alpha-blockers. These medications relax bladder neck muscles and muscle fibers in the prostate, making urination easier. Alpha-blockers include alfuzosin (Uroxatral), doxazosin (Cardura), tamsulosin (Flomax) and silodosin (Rapaflo). They usually work quickly in men with relatively small prostates. The side effects include dizziness and a condition in which semen goes back into the bladder instead of out the tip of the penis (retrograde ejaculation)
  2. 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors. These medications shrink your prostate by preventing hormonal changes that cause prostate growth. They include finasteride (Proscar) and dutasteride (Avodart). They might take up to six months to be effective. The side effects include retrograde ejaculation.
  3. Combination drug therapy. Your doctor might recommend taking an alpha-blocker and a 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor at the same time.
  4. Tadalafil. Tadalafil which is used to treat erectile dysfunction can also treat prostate enlargement. The side effects include memory problems and blurred vision.

The Prostate Defence
